Rohit Sharma Gets Hit for Another Bad Performance in Australia and Is Called “Lazy”
When facing a strong bowling lineup, one must be switched on and make wise decisions, according to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who criticized India captain Rohit Sharma’s poor shot that resulted in his dismissal off Pat Cummins on day two of the Boxing Day Test. When Rohit attempted a one-leg halfhearted pull off Cummins, his attempt to open the batting for the first time in the series backfired, and the top-edge was comfortably collected by mid-on to be out for three in the second over. Rohit’s terrible performance in Test matches this year continued with his dismissal, bringing his total number of runs in this series to 22.
That photo is simply lazy, unfocused, and unprepared for the situation. Since he made his debut, he has been regarded as one of the top hookers and ball pullers, but that is nothing. It’s not a commitment. It doesn’t appear to be hostile. All he wants to do is tap it on the head.
“Might have held in the wicket, yes, might have seamed away from him a fraction, but if you are going to survive against this Australian attack you have to be switched on and making good decisions. If you are not, they will knock you over every time,” Ponting told Channel Seven.
Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann also criticized Rohit’s shot selection. “If he’s going to hit it, hit it Rohit. You’re a class player, you should actually take that on. Plenty of room in the outfield, take it on,” he stated on ABC Sport.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also slammed Rohit for his lazy dismissal. “That’s a really big mistake … it was a nothing shot. He is just (hit it) too early in the innings and hasn’t got used to the pace and bounce. It’s a sad state for the Indian captain, averaging 11 in his past 14 Test innings.”
