In the first T20I, Mayank Yadav made a strong debut for the Indian squad by taking a wicket against Bangladesh.

In the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday, much-awaited India debutant Mayank Yadav—the guy whose exceptional speed ignited the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign—made it happen. During his first match, Mayank failed to surpass the 150 kmph barrier. In the previous IPL season, the fast bowler made headlines with a ball that measured 156.7 kmph; nevertheless, against Bangladesh, he bowled at a tempo that fluctuated between 135 and 150 kmph. Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player for India, has offered an explanation for his alleged quickness.

“Mayank Yadav bowled his first over as a maiden – Mayank ‘Gatimaan’ Yadav. He hadn’t played cricket for four months. He was coming back after an injury. There were a few butterflies in his stomach. There was a little nervous energy as well,” he stated in a YouTube clip.

“However, he started well and tried to bowl in straight lines. He wasn’t trying to reach 150-160 kph because there was a little more focus on the body – ‘Let’s not push myself because I am coming back after an injury’. However, there is no doubt that this bowler has pace,” Chopra added.

In the game, Mayank took his first international wicket, announcing his entrance on the big stage. Chopra still believes Mayank needs more time, though, before he can truly apply his extraordinary abilities in the way that is intended.

“He bowled at a good pace and showed that he has got the ingredients. You are seeing the ingredients as of now with which an excellent dish can be prepared. However, that will take some time and the Indian team will give him time, that’s what I feel,” Chopra stated.
