Should India choose KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant in the ODI series against Sri Lanka?

On Thursday, India’s captain Rohit Sharma stated that choosing between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to bat as the wicketkeeper in One-Day Internationals is a difficult task since both players are “match-winners” in their own right. During the T20 World Cup in the Americas, Pant made a comeback to the Indian uniform, and on Friday, Rahul is expected to play in his first one-day encounter since January against Sri Lanka. “It’s a tough call (wicketkeeper-batter between Rahul and Pant) to make. Both are quality players, and you know the abilities of both the players. They are match-winners in their own way. They have won a lot of games for us in the past,” Rohit told the media prior to the encounter.

According to Rohit, having a problem with plenty is always preferable to not having one.

“It is not easy to pick a team or a player when you have quality like that. It is always nice to have problems like that while picking up the teams, so you know that there is quality in the squad. I look forward to these kind of problems till I am the captain,” he grinned.

Rohit stated that the player’s freedom of expression is more essential than who is ultimately selected.

According to the 37-year-old, the players can focus on their game without fear because the management has already established a calm environment in the dressing room.

The most crucial thing is to provide gamers the freedom they need to do that, and it is our responsibility to make sure that we create the right environment—yes, we have already done so—so that they can come here and play freely.

“In order for them to avoid (having to) obsess on their own performance, outcome, etc. We are more than delighted if you are playing the game that the team wants you to play,” he continued.

Suryakumar Yadav, who took over as India’s T20I captain after him, performed admirably in his maiden complete series, according to Rohit.

“I don’t want to say too much about it right now because it’s early in his leadership. He’s done a tremendous job, so let him keep going.

“We tend to jump right in, making snap judgments regardless of our performance. “Once he performs consistently, we can discuss the matter,” he stated.

In the most recent Twenty20 International series, India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 under the direction of Suryakumar; Rohit referred to it as a solid start.

“It’s definitely a good start for them in that format. They played well as a unit, which is what Team India is all about. I’m sure they are heading in the right direction,” he stated.
