Migael Pretorius, who is uncapped, will replace him for the two-Test series against South Africa.
Gerald Coetzee, a fast bowler, has sustained a side strain during Major League Cricket (MLC), the USA’s T20 franchise league, and will miss South Africa’s next Test series against the West Indies. Coetzee is replaced by Migael Pretorius, a player with 64 first-class games under his belt but without a Test cap.
Coetzee, a player for the Texas Super Kings, went back home so that South Africa’s medical staff could examine his damaged left side. He was deemed unable to participate in the Test series, which gets underway on August 7, according to Cricket South Africa’s confirmation on Thursday.
For a T20I series against Pakistan in March 2021, Pretorius was last included in the South African team, however he was not given a cap. In December 2020, he was also called up to the national team for a Test series in Sri Lanka; however, he was unable to make his debut due to a shoulder injury
Pretorius, 29, has 188 wickets at 27.50 in 64 first-class games. At an average of 39.43, he has taken 23 wickets this season in the English County Championship, making him the highest wicket-taker for Somerset.
The Test series is started by South Africa at Port-of-Spain, with the second Test being played in Providence. Next up are three T20Is on August 24–28.
